Livelihoods and Forestry Programme (LFP) is a bilateral aid programme of Government of Nepal (GoN) and the United Kingdom Government's Department for International Development (DFID) that started in 2001. The programme purpose is to enhance the assets of rural communities through the promotion of more equitable, efficient and sustainable use of forest resources.
The programme will produce the following key outputs through its interventions and supports: - Forest managers responsively manage and utilise forest resources to sustainably maximise multiple benefits;
- Poor and excluded groups actively participate in and benefit from involvement in the forestry/NRM sector;
- Capacity within and coordination amongst institutions for forestry sector development is strengthened;
- Innovative and conflict-sensitive approaches are incorporated into forest-sector planning and policies; and
- National-level forest sector capacity and response to field reality is strengthened.
LFP works with a variety of partners including the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation (MFSC), District Forest Offices and Soil Conservation Offices, Local Government bodies (Village Development Committees and District Development committees), other line agencies and the civil society organizations to create an environment that will reduce the vulnerability of the poor and improve their livelihoods.
